For an on-location photography studio, the quietly exhausting part of the job isn't the shooting. It's deciding which photographer goes to which shoot.
Coverage area. The client's requested date and time. Who's actually free. Travel time between locations. Not double-booking anyone.
Every booking you add makes that dispatch puzzle harder — and in peak season it stops being a puzzle and becomes a fire.
Shiftaru builds those assignments for you, automatically.

Booking a shoot is a dispatch problem
To assign one shoot, you're checking several things at once:
- Can this photographer cover the shoot's location / service area?
- Are they free at the client's requested time (1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice)?
- Do they handle this package or gear requirement?
- Is there enough travel time around the shoots on either side — and does anything overlap?

Somewhere past a couple dozen bookings, solving this by hand stops being realistic. Not because any single assignment is hard — but because moving one shoot knocks over the next three.
Shiftaru assigns automatically, honoring client preferences
Hand Shiftaru the same conditions and it matches:
- Service area, in priority order — photographers who can cover the client's location, closest first
- Requested times — 1st choice, then 2nd, then 3rd, placed at exactly the requested time
- No double-booking — travel and break time are reserved; overlapping shoots are prevented automatically
- Workload balance — spread bookings across your roster, or concentrate them. Your call.
Note that area is a soft priority, not a wall: a farther-out photographer can still be assigned if that's the best available match. Client preferences like requested photographer gender work the same way — they're weighted, not absolute.
Hundreds of bookings resolve in seconds. When peak season dumps a month of requests on you at once, you get a working first draft with one click.
(The matching engine itself is explained in Part 2.)
Shoots land at the exact time the client asked for
This sounds obvious, and it's exactly where naive schedulers fall over.
Shiftaru looks at the package duration (or the length of the requested window) and places the shoot at the requested start time. If that exact slot is taken, it searches the gaps immediately before and after. If it still doesn't fit, it reports the booking as unmatched — with the reason.
What it never does is quietly blow up a one-hour family session into a photographer's entire day. No phantom all-day bookings, no mystery gaps.

And your client data never leaves the browser
An on-location studio holds client names, phone numbers, home addresses (that is the shoot location), and dates. That's real personal data — often for families with young children.
The client data you load into Shiftaru is processed entirely inside your own browser. It is never sent to our servers. Close the tab and it's gone. The finished assignment sheet is saved as a file you control.
We can't leak your client list, because we never receive it. (Details in Part 3.)
